Our First FTF (First to Find)!

Here's Martin finding the cache - My Favorite Watering Hole. It was in a QT parking lot.  We earned $1 for being the FTF.  What a great ending to a wonderful day!  He's glad I pushed him out the door and within 15 minutes we had our first FTF.

Martin had a plan to get a few geocaches today (47!).  His plan was to do the Sonoran Wildlife Animal series of caches.  They were all named after animals native or inhabited in Arizona.  It was quite fun as you will see below.

Our first cache of the day - 7:30 am!  Little did I know that a few feet behind me was a Western Diamondback rattlesnake. I knew something was up when Martin said, "Uh, honey, stand up."  I figured it was a scorpion so I stood up.  Then he said, "Move slowly this way." At that point, he said I jumped and moved behind him (giving him the death grip, of course).  

Here he is.  I'm glad I didn't know what kind of a snake it was at the time.   Look at that rattler!

This is the beautiful view we had all day at McDowell Mountain Regional Park.

We found this cache at Tempe Town Lake.  It was a beautiful day there.  By the time we finished the day, we had found 60!!!!

Melanie has set an ambitious goal of getting to 500 geocaches by the end of the year, which means we will definitely be getting off the couch. I guess we were both kind of lazy over the summer so on a lovely cool evening here in Arizona we decided to go and do some geocaching.  With a bit of help from another geocacher we found one of our nemisis caches that we had tried 3 times to find. We even managed to drag Phil out to help.

99 Bottles of Beer on the wall 9/25/11

This one had been bugging us for months.

This was aptly named Lucky 13

Well, we finally made it to 99 so we are all set for our trip to Sedona!! We found the remaing 4 here in Ahwatukee, so we have so more smiley faces on our geocaching map for Arizona! We also conquered on of our nemisis caches, which was #99.

We are going camping in Sedona in a couple of weeks, so Melanie thought it would be a good idea to celebrate finding out 100th Geocache when we are in Sedona. Since we were on number 91, and the weather is a little cooler, we thought we had better get out there.

We found 5 more today so we will have to find a few more next weekend.  There were a couple of very creative designs.

Braving the heat 9/4/11

Can you spot the Geocache?

After a month of inactivity and a cancelled camping trip (due to me breaking one of my toes again), I swear the walls moved and the withdrawal shakes got the better of me so we had to go and brave the heat geocaching in Arizona.  We found a couple of very creative caches. Have a look and see if you can guess where the geocahse is in the photo. Answer is below.

We found this large geocache under a fake cable utility box. It still amazes us the creativity that some people have.  We dropped off a couple of travel bugs to continue their journey.

The most ingenious cache of the day - someone painted some pipes with the same color as the utility boxes and used magnets to attach them.  The log book was in the pipe.
